Meet Pastor Jones!

Pastor Jones is originally from Callahan, FL and moved to Michigan in November of 2000 MRJ-profile-pic-07-28-14to serve as Assistant Pastor at Zion Baptist Church. When our previous pastor retired in February of 2003 after 28 years of service, Michael was asked to stay on in the new position of Pastor.

Before serving in ministry, Michael worked for Chase-Manhattan Mortgage as an operations supervisor and at the time of his departure was a trading analyst for Chase.

He and his wife, Tondra, originally from the Atlanta area, met in late 80’s while they were students at Trinity Baptist College. They attended Trinity Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL for twelve years, where Michael served as an Adult Bible Class Teacher teaching a young adult couple’s class. He also taught classes on such topics as fasting and outreach in Trinity’s “Institute for Christian Training,” and operated a camera in the evening worship services. The Jones’ have two children, Spencer, who serves in the US Army, and Sophia, who is in junior high.

Pastor Jones was educated at Trinity Baptist College, William Tyndale College, Michigan Theological Seminary, and Moody Theological Seminary. He is a graduate of William Tyndale College (Highest Honors) Michigan Theological Seminary (Highest Honors), and Moody Theological Seminary (High Honors) where he won the Faculty Award in Systematic Theology upon graduation. While at MTS he served on the Student Leadership Team (twice as Treasurer and twice as President) and served as a Research Assistant on Dr. Eugene Mayhew’s Dictionary of Messianic Candidates and his forthcoming commentary on 1 & 2 Chronicles. He also served as a Teaching Assistant in Systematic Theology under Dr. J. Brian Tucker.

Pastor Jones sits on the board of the Fish & Loaves Community Food Pantry based here in Taylor, and is currently president of the Taylor Ministerial Fellowship.

Pastor Jones is currently working on his PhD at the University of Chester (UK) and is writing on Paul’s theology of suffering.

During his time off, Pastor Jones enjoys fly fishing and reading (especially science fiction and mysteries) and most mornings may be found in the gym. A lifelong Sherlock Holmes fan, he is a member of one of the oldest Sherlock Holmes societies in the US.
